OUR STORY

By: Mike Wennekes, (creative director at SIXTYONESAINTS)

I started SIXTYONESAINTS with the concept of creating something personal that others could relate and identify with.

For the last two decades I was constantly traveling all over the world as a filmmaker from which I spent the last 5 years mostly in conflict zones.

Traveling so much and for such a long time has increased my “self-concept clarity” drastically.

Self-reflection came hand in hand with the interactions i had with local cultures and people with diverse backgrounds and individual beliefs. How does this person’s values align with or contradict my own? Do the beliefs I’ve held my entire life stand up to the unique experiences that I’ve been a part of during this time that I have spent all over the world?

In the face of discomfort and strangeness, i became either more sure of my opinions and values, or i questioned them and adapted new ways of seeing the world and humanity.

I think I have found out for a big part which of my beliefs are fundamental to who I am, and the ones I have simply absorbed from my own cultural upbringings.

So I guess SIXTYONESAINTS is an expression of my values, a snapshot of my mood and a manifestation of how I see the world with an unconditioned mind.

Visually I had a very clear idea of how I wanted SIXTYONESAINTS to be, but when i started and the first samples came in, I realized I was a long long way from where I wanted to be…

Then we started developing our own dyeing and washing techniques - which took a lot of time, mess and frustrations….. But as time passed, I became more enthusiastic, realizing i had found my signature, the blueprint for SIXTYONESAINTS.

Once in a while you buy that garment and you know immediately that it is your favorite piece from day one. The feel, the fit and the look of it making it your favorite.

Our philosophy at SIXTYONESAINTS is to bring out unique, one of a kind, hand dyed pieces that are made with passion and attention to detail in the hope it will be your favorite piece of garment.

We update our collection weekly as none of our pieces are mass produced.

We design piece by piece in small batches, bring it out and we start with the next design.

We hope you will enjoy what we are creating and we look forward shipping our pieces to you.

Thank you,  Mike Wennekes (Creative Director, SIXTYONESAINTS)

Our thoughts behind “WRITE YOUR OWN FUCKING STORY”

Social conditioning is the process by which people are trained to think, believe, feel,

live and react in a way that is approved by the society, something that starts at birth.

Ultimately, it is a form of irrational education. We have allowed society to condition us to

a way of thinking that if we follow this particular ‘norm’, then we will fit the mould.

Which results in many of us leading a life that is very similar to someone else’s.

DCONDITION YOURSELF

The more you gain the ability to critically examine your thought patterns and analyze

your belief system, the closer you are to decondition yourself. Try to see things for

what they are, instead of how they appear. Don’t live a life of what society expects from

you, live a life that is no longer bound by society’s values.

Decondition yourself and “WRITE YOUR OWN FUCKING STORY”
